Apple Sauce – straight from the garden

Our own home made apple sauce was made with apples from our garden.

Those apples fell early, they still tasted sour but were perfect in apple sauce sweetened with honey.

I’ll tell you the recipe, you can try it with apples from anywhere.

The special thing about having the apples grown in your yard is to observe the fascinating work of Nature. Each apple started as a tiny white-pinkish flower. From there, a tiny apple ball came out that flower, forming slowly but steady into an amazing apple. What a miracle. The apple tree stands there calm, strong and fierce. You cannot see any of its performance. Still the tree is capable to produce such a wonder as those apples!

Every apple is a blessing from Nature.

We all can become aware that our planet and how it works is very beautiful. Without Nature we won’t have any food. We can do small things to help Nature and improve the environment.

Those apples we used for our apple sauce:

- are free

- didn’t have to travel long distances to reach us.

- doesn’t have any chemicals

You can buy local products. It’ll reduce CO2 emissions due to shorter transportation ways. Which helps protect our environment.

Here, you can try your very own apple sauce, whenever you feel tired of eating the whole apple:

Ingredients:

- 7-8 small or medium sized apples

- 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice

- 1 cup of water

- optional: 2-3 tablespoons of honey

Steps:

1. peel the apples, remove seeds

2. cut the apples in slices

3. put the small apple pieces in a pot.

4. add water and lemon juice don’t soak the apples in the water, heat the pot

5. bring to a boil, lower the temperature and simmer for 5 minutes or until the apples are tender.

6. mash the apples or use a blender to mix the apples until a smooth texture is reached.

7. taste it. If not sweet enough add honey.

8. Serve and enjoy.

We enjoyed the apple sauce as a traditional side with Swiss ‘Alplermacaroni”, or macaroni and potatoes baked with cheese.
